A fascinating backstory behind this lovely historic neighborhood

A quaint residential neighborhood with oak-lined streets, the tale of Victoria Park is intertwined with the very history of Fort Lauderdale itself. Only a tomahawk's throw from New River, where pioneer Frank Stranahan operated the ferry and trading post which grew into the bustling tropical paradise the city has become, Victoria Park was one of the original neighborhoods, featuring houses built through the 20s and 30s, and still retains much of its Old Florida charm, thanks to the vision of Mary Brickell. She liked the oak trees. When Henry Flagler was building the Florida East Coast Railway, Mary (wife of William Brickell, who owned vast tracts of land through South Florida dating back into the 1800s) denied Flagler a right of way through the oak hammock just north of the New River, forcing him to curve his railroad tracks to the west, around what is now downtown, thus shaping the city and preserving this gem of a neighborhood.

Convenient to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Victoria Park is now an upscale professional neighborhood with tremendous inherent land value.
