A lush 35 square miles within central Broward County, Florida The Town of Davie is a picturesque western themed community which features an equestrian history and lifestyle. The Town's rural atmosphere, open green spaces, numerous parks and over 165 miles of trail system separates Davie from other municipalities, presenting its 107,000 residents the opportunity to live an equestrian lifestyle, amenities unique in today's burgeoning South Florida.
Mission Statement says it strives to be the preeminent community in South Florida in which to live, work, learn and play while treasuring a preserved natural setting.
A sprawling educational district also makes Davie a nexus of higher education in South Florida, with several nationally known colleges, technical institutes, and universities.
Interestingly enough, this educational district was built on the remnants of the old Naval Station Fort Lauderdale, which figures prominently into the fabled tales of the Bermuda Triangle. The infamous Flight 19 - five TBM Avenger torpedo bombers carrying 14 naval aviators that disappeared under mysterious circumstances in December, 1945 - actually took off from white concrete runways we used to park our cars on while attending Broward Junior College in the early 1970s.
Nearby Cooper City is also a highly sought after address. A bedroom community only 8.5 square miles, it was incorporated in 1959. Founded by Morris Cooper, a Ukrainian-born businessman and developer who originally envisioned a well-planned, family-oriented community from the citrus groves, scrub forest and ranch land about 15 miles inland from the Atlantic Coast. Cooper invested heavily in the town's infrastructure, including its initial water plant, and the Cooper Colony Golf and Country Club.
Homes in Cooper City sold for $12-16,000 in 1959. The bottom fell out of the real estate market with a recession in 1962. Those same houses sold for an average of $10,000 then, and Morris Cooper actually offered the whole town for sale in The Wall Street Journal. There were no takers. Today, Cooper City's homes average approximately $689,000 in value, and its 34,000 residents rank 4th highest in Median Income in Broward County.
